To get you in the mood for the Swiss Yarn Festival, we have planned a knit-along again! We will knit the “The Cipher Cowl” together on Instagram, which was specially designed for the festival.

How does the Knitalong work?

The pattern “The Cipher Cowl” by Meret Buetzberger will be knitted during the Knitalong. It is a playful, mysterious design inspired by hidden messages and classic English knitting abbreviations like ssk, k2tog, RS or WS. What looks like a secret code reveals itself stitch by stitch.

The Pattern is available in two options:
🔸 Double Knitting – the original reversible two-layer construction
🔸 Stranded Version – an alternative for knitters who prefer not to double knit, while still achieving the same coded look

The Pattern is available in 3 languages. German, English and French and will be published on 15 December 2024. Everyone who buys a kit from one of the exhibitors will receive the pattern for free.

Timeline

Release: 13 December 2025
Start of the Knitalong: 17 January 2026
End of the Knitalong: 22 March 2026

Conditions of participation

Any national or international person who knits the “The Cipher Cowl” may take part. Regardless of which yarn is used or whether the person is a visitor to the Swiss Yarn Festival.

Participation is via Instagram. There is an Instagram chat  for the exchange during the Knitalong. However, the prizes will only be raffled via Instagram.

The Swiss Yarn Festival regularly shares posts with the hashtags below in their story and will keep it as a highlight.

At the festival

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1.30 pm a group picture will be taken  in front of the Riverside. Everyone can present their “The Cipher Cowl” on all dates.
