Mosaic Knitting is one of those techniques that is really a lot easier than it looks. Unlike stranded knitting, Mosaic is worked holding only one strand at all times. Essentially, you alternate between two rows of two different colors, but instead of working all the stitches, some stitches are slipped. This offers a simple way to manipulate what is actually striped knitting into a wonderful variety of decorative elements. These beautiful and varied patterns can be applied in many different ways.
During the class, Natasja will provide a brief history of mosaic knitting, and share samples of her mosaic designs. With this background knowledge, we will dive into the more practical side of things, like choosing yarn and colors and reading the mosaic charts. In the hands-on portion of the workshop, we will practice mosaic knitting together.
After this class, you will surely feel confident to start creating your own mosaic works of art!
