In this relaxed workshop we work specifically with reduced technology. We embroider rhythmic patterns, which invite to precise observation and reflection. Embroidery is more than just the creation of beautiful shapes on the surface. It is above all work with colours and rhythm, which is transferred from the embroidering hand to the whole body. In the course of the workshop we will create different patterns and try out embroidery directions, so that you can try out a whole range of possibilities: from free, associative work to demanding stitches that require a high level of concentration. In keeping with the theme, I have prepared a few philosophical theses that we can discuss together.
We work with vegetable-dyed threads from Temaricious and fabrics that I dyed myself for this course. The colours I have chosen together with the threads and embroidery patterns form a thematic unit. We embroider through several layers of fabric (Kantha stitch), which not only makes the embroidery pleasant for the hand, but also optically deepens it. The embroidered fabric pieces can be hung as pictures – similar to small works of art – or used for further processing (cases, bags, etc.).
All documents and material (fabric, threads, sewing needles, embroidery frames) are provided.
