Sock World Record
The Sock World Record kicks off with us!
36,000+ pairs of hand-knitted socks, collected on a single, gigantic line.
Because knitting warms
And because these socks will then go where they are truly needed.
will be donated – to cold weather buses, aid buses, and social institutions
Initiated by
the Sockenweltrekord association. The members are Miriam Cahannes, Veronika Hug, Susanne Oswald, and Bernd Oswald
You can start knitting now
Of course, you can start knitting immediately, but the official cast-on will take place at the Swiss Yarn Festival (SYF) 2026. Knitting will then continue for a year, and the world record attempt will take place at SYF 2027.
Requirements for the socks
- At least size 40, but preferably larger. Shoe size 43 is often needed, and people with size 45 will also be happy if they are considered.
- Cuff length at least 10 – 15 cm, up to 20 cm is ideal.
- The socks must be loosely stitched together at the back of the cuff (heel to heel) about two centimeters below the top edge with two or three stitches. Preferably with a contrasting color. Simply tie the beginning and end of the thread together with a firm knot that can be untied later. You can find a video about this on YouTube.
- Any sock yarn is welcome, whether 4-ply, 6-ply, or even 8-ply.
- Size labeling is not necessary.
- Collecting the socks will start after the cast-on. Collection points will be announced later.
