Description
Raglan sweaters are a favorite among knitters for their seamless construction and customizable fit, but achieving a perfectly tailored yoke takes more than just following a basic formula. In this workshop, we’ll break down the key elements of raglan yoke construction and explore ways to modify and personalize your sweater for the best possible fit.
In this hands-on and theory-driven class, we’ll cover:
- Understanding the geometry of a raglan yoke – How stitches are distributed and increased.
- Customizing the neckline and yoke depth – Adjustments for different body shapes and styles.
- Refining the increase structure – Exploring traditional vs. modified raglan shaping.
- Balancing fit and proportion – Fine-tuning sleeve and body increases for a flattering result.
- Adding decorative elements – Eyelet raglans, cables, twisted stitches, and lace details.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll walk away with the knowledge to confidently adjust and design your own raglan sweaters, ensuring that they not only fit beautifully but also reflect your personal style.
Homework
Raglan Yokes Workshop Homework (Optional)
During this workshop we will unveil all the calculations necessary to create your perfect raglan sweater. If you want to start knitting right away, or work these calculations based on a fabric you really like, then bring a blocked swatch, so we can measure your stitch and row gauge and you can work with those numbers. Bring the needles you used for this swatch and another needle 2 sizes down so you can begin your sweater.
This is completely optional. If you don’t want to or don’t have the time to swatch, we will use a commonly use gauge of 20 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm.
Bring Along
Yarn and circular needles in a comfortable gauge for swatching, Stitch markers, tape measure, and a pen/notebook for calculations.
